I Voted, I Voted, I Voted

I got my ass up this morning, I got Bub's ass up this morning, and off we went to our local polling place.

This is the first year, mind you, that we have been voting in the appropriate place - the last couple of years we've still had to go to Hollywood to vote.  So this was the first time I got in and out of voting in less than two hours (it took maybe 20 minutes).

But it was 8 in the morning, in the middle of nowhere, and crowded!  And we're in California... It's basically a line for everyone to say to the country 'no seriously, we're liberals'. So G-d bless everyone in swing states right now, hot damn... I'm looking at you, Virginia, make me proud.

I'm also, for the first time ever, registered under my new, ridiculous, no-chance-in-hell anyone in the state other than Bub has the same last name.  So much easier.  (For the record, I've been married 6 years and it took me 5 to change it for no other reason than that's how much I hate going to the social security office).

I finished before Bub did, snuck up behind him voting in a large crowd and whispered "the answer is 7..."  Normally I do this when he's working, and apparently he does not find it helpful in voting, either.  Harumph.

And as you can see from my growing sticker collection in our bathroom, it also means we have been in this house for 3 years:

I originally thought I would post about the election after it was done, but some thoughts whilst we are still all hopeful and hopped up on patriotism:

1.  Delighted to see that Facebook is full of people having happily voted.  The cool thing, also, seems to be complaining about all the election statuses.  We're all sick of it, but come on.  I don't know that flooding my newsfeed with "I'm so sick of it" posts is any less irritating than the political ones.  And if we take away irritating facebook statuses... for me that would be babies, sports, and weirdly vague statuses pointing to some sort of emotional trauma you're having but don't want to share.  So that leaves... 5 people.

And as I said on Facebook - if you're sick to death of political posts consider what it's like, year round, for those of us not into sports.  At least when this is over there won't be yet another election starting in a few weeks just with different uniforms and a different sized ball.

2.  Just a thought -  there's been a poll running around that says 20 out of 21 other nations polled would vote Obama in.  In case you were about to think it, I don't think countries like France want Obama to be elected so they can take us over and jail us for thinking about Christmas. As I - read?  watched? - somewhere, if you try on a skirt and 20 of your friends say "that skirt sucks you should really wear the other one" chances are that would at least give you pause. (Also - I interpret this to mean "if you're unhappy the man hasn't cured cancer fast enough, perhaps the solution isn't voting back in cancer").

3. Specifically, I voted for my patootie and yours.  (As in - invite who you would like into your vaj or not, evict who you would like from your vaj or not).

4.  I'm going to pretend like I'm not going to spend the whole day watching news.  Honestly, if there was some way to knock me out until tomorrow morning.. Mostly because I'm not sure what's worse, getting bad news all at once or slowly watching bad news strangle the life out of hope.  (If infertility has taught me nothing else, it's to lean towards all-at-once... and yet, I will watch all day either towards slow-relief or slow-fear).

5.  Tomorrow I will be relieved and delighted, or hostile. And whichever way that goes, there will be people who feel the exact opposite way as me.  If you really want to be worried about obnoxious facebook statuses - think about what tomorrow will bring.

And in the event you want a distraction from all the chaos and you missed my post yesterday - go check out my little sister's blog.  She's amazing (and thus I voted on behalf of her young patootie, as well).

  1. I'm mostly glad to see the end of this election, but it does sadden me that I won't be seeing as many liberal rants from my father-in-law on Facebook.

Maybe we could all start getting excited about Canadian politics while waiting for the next US election. Yeah, who am I kidding. No one - not even Canadians - care about Canadian politics.

    1. I will simultaneously miss the liberal rants and be glad to be rid of the "everyone who votes for Obama - no not you, Jenny, just everyone else - is clearly uneducated and on foodstamps". ::sigh::

  3. Your "I voted" stickers are much cooler than mine.
Funny how different the experience is in different states. You mentioned your 20 minute wait and I see on the news long lines in other states. There were only two people ahead of me in line and if I hadn't been so OCD about checking and rechecking that my circles were filled in properly on my ballot, I would have been in and out in 5 mins.

    1. In Virginia (where I'm from) it's going to be a mother effing fiasco. And Florida! Have you seen the early voting lines from this last weekend in Florida? Some of those lines were 8 HOURS LONG. The longest I waited (and in CA, mind you) was 3 hours in 2008.

      Your stickers are different?!

  4. Oh please please please let America make the right choice...all (well, most, according to that poll) of Canada shudders in fear at the thought of a Romney presidency!

We don't get cool stickers like that here when we vote. I'm jealous.

    1. I lurve my stickers. I lurve them.

Yes indeedy do, I'm a hopin' with you, my love. If we win, the other side is going to be way louder, way more hostile and way more outlandish about not winning... and yet if they win, I really, genuinely think we're all in trouble (especially, especially, especially those of us with a uterus.. Honestly, I thought it was ridiculous that gay rights was something that we have to argue about, and now apparently we have to go back and re-hash it out over my vagina.. which is evidently terrifying to some people).

  5. During the last presidential election, we were living in North Carolina. My husband and I spent every Saturday for months going door to door helping to register to vote and answer political questions. We even defied death once when an old hillbilly pulled a shot gun on us (I'm pretty sure he was a Republican). BUT, my point is, is that it was the first time NC went blue in a very, very long time. I was a beaming mamma chicken after that- just so proud. Every vote matters. Yee-ha!

    1. I am with you, chiquita banana. I lived in VA from 18-23 and I voted EVERY year, voted blue and it ALWAYS went red. We were here in 2008 and whatever channel we were watching election night, Virginia went blue and they said "that's it, Mr. Obama wins" and I CRIED. And I'm normally quite the emotionless robot.

  6. Ahh, I'm with you on being knocked out until tomorrow morning. I just know I'm going to be sitting in front of the tv biting my nails and eating too much ice cream (damn you wine for containing alcohol!) until the whole thing is over. I'm already anxiety ridden and it has barely begun.

Thanks for voting with my vag in mind. I did that same for you :)

  7. I have been so obnoxious about this election on facebook, on purpose... AND I DO NOT CARE! I have seen pictures of people potty training their kids on facebook... so... I think they can grin and bare it until tomorrow.

    1. Right? If I have to see what your kid eats for lunch every day, I think you can deal with me pointing out that I would like said kid to grow up and have access to birth control.

  8. I voted for my vajayjay too- but I'm also in IL so my vote is not worth as much.

I have been stalking fivethirtyeight.com and Nate Silver is predicting a 90.9% chance Obama will win. That is what is keeping me from being too nervous today....but we'll see.

    1. I am leaning towards feeling pretty good about it so far.. the only thing that's keeping me a smidge more nervous than I would otherwise be is seeing those lines in Florida... If we have to do 2000 all over again then I get to be 18 again. It's only fair.

  10. I haven't voted....YET! Plan on heading there with my husband after work today. I was so sad to find out that 2 of my sisters did not vote because they either didn't have time or forgot to change their precincts. UGH! I guess in my state (very liberal) it probably doesn't matter much, but still. It is the principle of the matter! Glad you performed your civic duty! I am kind of scared that half my family lives in OH and they are voting today. I did talk to my grandma and she proudly voted Obama by absentee ballot last week. I LOVE HER!!!

    2. hmm, I'm noticing some slowage. I just tried and got that red screen of death too....

it looks like it is from my "I am the face" badge, I deleted it, hope that helps. I certainly don't want to malware anybody.

  13. Putting aside all terror of what will happen should my candidate loose, and extreme anger at Ohio and Florida for doing everything possible aside from donning white sheets and hoods to suppress minority votes, today was a stellar day at the polls. Why, you ask? Oh, I just had a 20 minute awesome conversation with the guy standing behind me in line. Turns out he lives three houses up the street from me. And he's James Eckhart. AKA: Mr. Walsh. AKA BRENDA AND BRANDON'S DAD on 90210!!! Admittedly not as cool as some celeb spottings, but I think this is a good omen. Clinton was in office when I was watching 90210.

  18. We were watching the news last night in Australia and my husband who is so not into polictics was FLOORED when he heard of anyone who could even possibly be elected that wants to abolish womens rights. Yes, that's right. That's how fkd up the rest of the world will see the US if this guy gets in.

All I can say and repeat is what the, how the hell the and why?

    1. Oh man - I have... NO idea. I accidentally got into a political discussion yesterday with someone who sees the Republican party as the answer and tried to explain that to the rest of us it is impossible - IMPOSSIBLE - to even look at the rest of the issues when they're so openly opposed to women, gays, minorities, etc. etc.
